Chief Economist and Director General, International Economic Relations

At Employment and Social Development Canada, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Economist and Director General, International Economic Relations to join our team.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide strategic input and analysis to support policy development related to foreign affairs, international trade, and international development.
- Lead and direct a team of economists in the development of economic analysis and evidence to inform departmental and government policy making and program implementation.
- Represent the department and the Government of Canada in outreach with international partners and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain institutional relations with international economic bodies, including the OECD.
- Master's degree in economics or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Significant experience in leading and reviewing economic analysis, guiding research, and developing strategic advice.
- Experience in communicating economic issues and findings to non-expert audiences.
- Experience in liaising with stakeholders, including the public, industry, and government.
- Experience in managing human and financial resources.
- PhD in economics or a related discipline.
- Experience in leading analytical work in trade policy or trade negotiations.
- Experience in leading analytical work related to international development economics.
