Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Economist and Director General to join our team at Global Affairs Canada. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing strategic economic advice and analysis to support policy development and program implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead and direct a team of economists to develop economic analysis and evidence to inform policy decisions.
  2. Provide expert advice and briefings to senior officials on economic issues and policy implications.
  3. Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, and international organizations.
  4. Represent the department and the Government of Canada in international forums and negotiations.
  5. Oversee the development and production of economic publications and communications products.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have a Master's degree in economics or a related field, with significant experience in leading economic analysis and providing strategic advice to senior officials. You should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Assets

A PhD in economics or a related discipline would be an asset, as would experience in leading analytical work in trade policy or international development economics. A track record of public engagement on economic issues would also be beneficial.
