Chief Economist and Director General

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Economist and Director General, International Economic Relations to join our team at Employment and Social Development Canada.
About the RoleThe Chief Economist is responsible for providing strategic policy development and analysis related to foreign affairs, international trade, and international development at Global Affairs Canada and across the Government of Canada.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and direct a professional staff of economists in the development of economic analysis and evidence to support departmental and government policy making and program implementation.
- Conduct outreach on international trade issues and their importance to the Canadian economy.
- Represent the department and the Government of Canada in outreach with other partners involved in international trade and issues affecting trade and commerce.
In addition to the Chief Economist responsibilities, this position also serves as Director General, International Economic Relations, overseeing the department's institutional relations with international economic bodies, including the OECD.
RequirementsTo be considered for this role, you must have a Master's degree in economics or a related field and significant experience in leading and reviewing economic analysis, guiding research, and communicating economic issues to non-expert audiences.
Additional qualifications include experience in managing human and financial resources, providing advice and briefings to senior officials, and liaising with stakeholders.
A PhD in economics or a related discipline is considered an asset.
