Job Summary:
Saskatchewan Polytechnic is seeking a skilled instructor to teach workplace skills and labour market preparation to adult learners. The successful candidate will have experience in adult education, career development, and workplace training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and deliver classroom and workplace instruction to facilitate the learning of work-related skills.
- Manage an adult-centered learning environment, establish rapport, and facilitate problem-solving in a non-threatening environment.
- Evaluate and report on students' progress in skills for success/essential skills, labour market preparation, and work experience courses.
- Assist trainees with career counseling and support to make informed career decisions.
- Research and utilize instructional strategies and resources to maximize learners' acquisition of workplace skills.
- Administer career and skills assessments, interpret results, and debrief learners individually and in group settings.
- Maintain current labour market information and contact with employers, including database and dashboard management.
- Promote program and student workplace partnerships with business, industry, public sector, and community-based organizations.
- Prepare individual learning plans relevant to learners' career goals and work individually with students to help them with job applications or select and secure work placements.
- Liaise with employers to facilitate networking, including the possible placement of students at the workplace, and assist with training plan development.
- Visit students at workplaces, working with supervisors to evaluate students' performance, provide feedback, and coaching.
- Complete and maintain student record forms and ensure efficient utilization of instructional materials and resources.
- Plan schedules, speakers, and other activities relevant to delivering the program.
- Assist with interviewing and selecting candidates for Career Enhancement programming from those referred by sponsoring agencies, as needed.
- Assist in preparing reports for and maintaining positive communication with sponsoring agencies.
Qualifications, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:
- Degree in Education or Human Resource Development or related subject area with a preference for studies in adult education and/or adult literacy and career counseling; and/or workplace training; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and directly related experience.
- Two years relevant experience working with adults in career transition, adult literacy, or skills for success/essential skills training; workplace training or transition to work programming, with a preference for experience in instruction of job search techniques.
- Experience and training in group facilitation, teaching, and human resource development.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare individual and group learning plans that lead to the development of employability and workplace essential skills/skills for success.
- Knowledge of career planning; experience in using career assessments, including but not limited to SII, MBTI.
- Qualified and/or experienced with the use Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES) or Workplace Essential Skills Assessment (WESA).
- Demonstrated knowledge and involvement with local labour market including business, government, and community-based organizations.
- Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications, at intermediate levels, as well as demonstrated ability to use email and internet for career and labour market research and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with learners and employers from diverse backgrounds, including indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, and people with disabilities.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and personal management skills.
- Ability to work as a team member and foster teamwork.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Demonstrates valuing diversity.
