Job Summary

The Government of Prince Edward Island is seeking a highly skilled Child Protection Social Worker to join our team in a delegated child protection role. As a key member of our social services team, you will be responsible for investigating and assessing child protection reports, providing child protection services, and mentoring junior staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations into child protection reports, assessing the risk of harm to children and determining the need for intervention.
  • Develop and implement case plans to ensure the safety and well-being of children, working closely with families, community agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff members, including mentoring and coaching to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated response to child protection concerns.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies and service providers to access resources and support for families.
  • Prepare cases for legal interventions, representing the Director of Child Protection in court as needed.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency child protection coverage on a rotation basis, providing critical support to families in crisis.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in child protection or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and partnership.
