About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our Corporate Legal department at Intact Financial Corporation. As a key member of our Canadian Product Development Legal team, you will play a critical role in reviewing, drafting, and revising insurance coverage forms, endorsements, notices, and other policy documents to reflect underwriting intent and risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and draft insurance coverage forms, endorsements, notices, and other policy documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert advice on insurance coverage and policy drafting to internal stakeholders, including Corporate Underwriting, Distribution, Claims, and Translation.
  • Identify and analyze emerging trends, new exposures, case law, and regulatory developments that may impact insurance products.
  • Collaborate with the United States Product Development Legal team as part of Intact Financial Corporation's North American Product Development Centre of Excellence.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal business partners, up to the senior leadership level, to advise and support on the intersection of legal, business, and strategic risks and goals.

Requirements

  • Member of the Law Society of Ontario or the Barreau du Québec (ideally both).
  • 5+ years of insurance coverage, complex claims handling, or policy-drafting experience at a large law firm or as an in-house lawyer at an insurance company focused on commercial, personal, or specialty coverage lines.
  • Excellent judgment, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders and advise on complex legal and business issues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with initiative to complete tasks and strive for improvement.
