About the Role

CSL International, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our Commercial and Operational pillars, you will provide legal counsel, advice, and support to our business units.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Commercial Legal Support
  • Provide legal assistance in relation to customer contracts, including contracts of affreightment, time charters, and voyage charters.
  • Assess legal risk in commercial transactions and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Supervise external counsel in commercial matters.
Operational Legal Support
  • Provide legal support for fleet management, including drafting and negotiating contracts with suppliers.
  • Assess legal risk in operational transactions and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Supervise external counsel in operational matters.
Financial Legal Support
  • Provide legal assistance in relation to financings and borrowing transactions.
  • Assess legal risk in finance transactions and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Supervise external counsel in financing matters.
Availability and Teamwork
  • Be available during non-business hours as required.
  • Work effectively with a global team and contribute to a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Requirements
  1. 2-5 years of legal experience in commercial and corporate law with a major law firm or corporation.
  2. Law degree from a recognized law faculty at a Canadian university.
  3. Member of the Barreau du Quebec or equivalent certification.
  4. Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
  5. Excellent team player and collaborator.
  6. Capable of working autonomously and with a global team.
  7. Effective risk manager and confident in making sound legal business decisions.
  8. Knowledge and experience in commercial and service contracts and corporate finance is an asset.
  9. Knowledge of maritime law, chartering, or maritime operations is an asset.
  10. Strong legal capabilities, problem-solving, project management skills, and attention to detail.
  11. Good interpersonal and communication skills in English and French (written and oral).
  12. Highly ethical and accountable.
