Position Overview

The University of Lethbridge is seeking a full-time, Limited Term position as an Awards Coordinator (Program Coordinator II).

The primary function of this role is to promote and develop a coordinated internal and external awards program. This includes leading the development and implementation of mechanisms to identify awards of distinction, recognizing excellence in the academy, in research, as well as non-academic employee recognition.

This position will provide a leadership role in developing successful nomination packages, including devising a tactical approach, writing submissions, and identifying nominators. Additionally, it will collaborate to develop communication strategies around award opportunities, including creating mechanisms and documents to advertise those opportunities to appropriate members of the University community.

The incumbent will also develop strategies to celebrate recipients of awards of distinction, both internally and externally, and collaborate with the Communications department and External Relations department regarding recognition events and external publicity.

The centralization of the operationalization of internal and external award coordination will increase efficiencies and consistency across the institution. This position will play a pivotal role in the reputation and profile of the University of Lethbridge with the intent of raising the number of award recipients. This work will support various external rankings of the University in a positive manner and the position will also positively impact the culture of the University and provide tangible and meaningful recognition of the contributions of all employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a coordinated internal and external awards program.
  • Lead the development of successful nomination packages.
  • Collaborate to develop communication strategies around award opportunities.
  • Develop strategies to celebrate recipients of awards of distinction.
  • Collaborate with the Communications department and External Relations department regarding recognition events and external publicity.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in any field/discipline.
  • At least five years of related experience; knowledge of the post-secondary education sector and its values.
  • Experience writing successful awards, grants, proposals, and knowledge of application strategies and techniques, attention to detail, and recognition of various agency and awards program requirements.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Effective copy editing and organization skills.
  • Proficient with word processing, database, and internet applications.
