Job Overview

The Casualty Claims Specialist plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional claims service experiences for Wawanesa's members. This position is responsible for ensuring the fair and equitable adjustment of complex auto and/or non-auto bodily injury and property damage liability claims. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret policy coverages and document claim files effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide exceptional service to members throughout the claims process, demonstrating empathy and concern for their satisfaction.
  2. Ensure timely and proactive communication with members, utilizing various channels to effectively address their inquiries.
  3. Adjust property and casualty claims of large to high complexity, applying in-depth knowledge of policy wordings and adjusting guidelines.
  4. Review and interpret policy wordings, determine policy coverage, and communicate coverage decisions to members.
  5. Establish timely and accurate loss and expense reserves through the life of the claim, evaluating and reconciling relevant information from various sources.
  6. Conduct comprehensive investigations to determine coverages and liability, adhering to Wawanesa's adjusting guidelines and recognizing when to engage internal and external resources.
  7. Negotiate and convey claim settlements within authority limits, communicating claim decisions promptly and effectively while delivering an exceptional member experience.
  8. Maintain an effective diary system and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures.
  9. Demonstrate and maintain excellent knowledge and understanding of policy coverages, complying with regional regulatory and licensing requirements.
  10. Stay current with legislative changes and trends in the insurance industry.
Qualifications
  1. Exceptional customer service skills, demonstrating empathy and concern for member satisfaction.
  2. Minimum 6 years of insurance adjusting experience, with strong knowledge of Commercial Lines Policy Wordings.
  3. Post-secondary degree is preferred.
  4. Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), or working towards designation and where required, dedicated to reach the proper licensing requirements.
  5. Exceptional knowledge of property estimating software, Xactware knowledge preferred.
  6. Ability to interpret and quantify property damage estimates.
  7. Excellent knowledge of medical terminology.
  8. Excellent communication skills; listening, written, and spoken.
  9. Excellent investigative and analytical skills.
  10. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to draw valid conclusions and effectively communicate them.
  11. Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  12. Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
  13. Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with others.
