Job Title: Part-Time Professor

Durham College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a part-time professor in the School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology.

About the Role

This is a part-time position teaching CHEM 1202 – Organic Chemistry Labs, a one-semester course designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of organic chemistry. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a positive learning environment, utilizing principles of adult education, and effectively using educational technologies to support learning.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and deliver curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  2. Ensure that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  3. Work independently and demonstrate initiative;
  4. Work effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  5. Participate in industry-led or community-based applied research;
  6. Use current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades;
  7. Have a proven track-record of life-long learning;
  8. Have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  1. A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (Master's is an asset);
  2. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience;
  3. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies;
  4. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset;
  5. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades;
  6. Proven track-record of life-long learning;
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders;
  8. Understanding of the Ontario college system.
