Job Summary

The Seabird Island Band is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic post-secondary students to join our Summer Placement Program as Early Childhood Education Assistants. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work with children aged 6-12, providing a safe and nurturing environment that fosters their physical, emotional, and cognitive development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and implementing culturally appropriate activities and experiences for children
  • Support the creation of a safe and healthy environment, including daily routines, record-keeping, and parental involvement
  • Participate in daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, and preparation
  • Follow established procedures for maintaining health records and administering medication
  • Report accidents, injuries, and illnesses to the supervisor and record incidents in the communication book
  • Assist in field trips and daily events
Requirements
  • Must be a minimum of 15 years old and have a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Must have a bank account and a BC Services Card
  • First Aid, Babysitting, and Food Safe certificates are an asset
  • Experience working with children is required
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and effectively interact with children
  • Ability to lift children alone or in pairs and participate in physical activities
  • Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite
  • Proficient interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to agree and adhere to Seabird Island Band HR, Finance, and IT Policies and Procedures
  • Knowledge, respect, and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions, and language or willingness to learn
