Post Secondary Summer Employment Program – Early Childhood Education

POSITION SUMMARY
The Seabird Island Band is excited to once again be providing Summer Placement Programs for Post-Secondary students. We will be providing a fully licensed program for age group 6-12. The program will include a variety of activities targeted at enriching the lives of kids in a fun, active, and culturally sensitive manner. We are looking for post-secondary students to serve as role models and leaders for children participating in the program. Successful candidates can expect to have a summer packed full of fun activities including field trips, cultural learning, fun in nature, professional development and making new friends.
This is a term position that will end on August 30, 2024 or when you complete 420 hours.
Eligibility requirements:
Must be Aboriginal status/non-status, on/off reserve who resides within the SASET catchment area. Must be 15 years of age or older and returning to school. Must have a valid Social Insurance number. Enrolled in full-time Post-Secondary School during 2023-2024 and returning full-time in September 2024.All Service Canada Personal Information Forms (PIFS) and Client Consent Forms (CC’s) must be submitted prior to commencement of program.

Assisting in culturally appropriate activities and experiences for the children.Assisting in providing a safe (emotionally and physically), healthy environment, flexible routines, record keeping, parental involvement, community support and the planning of developmentally appropriate experiences. Assisting in daily activities like cooking, cleaning, prep etc. is mandatory.
Follow the center’s procedures for maintaining health records and for administrating medication.
Report all accidents, injuries, and illness to the Supervisor, and record such incidents in the communication book.
Report all cases of (suspected) child abuse and or neglect to the Supervisor and/or follow center’s policy for reporting.
Assisting in field trips, and daily events Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, Executive Director or Chief & Council.
WHAT YOU BRING
Participants must be a minimum of 15 years old and have a SIN Number.Must have a Bank account and a BC Services Card. First Aid, Babysitting, Food Safe, certificates would be an asset.
Responsible adult training, or other 20 hours of childcare related training is an asset (or must be willing to obtain) Experience working with children.
Ability to work as a member of a team, as well as the ability to effectively interact with children. Will be responsible for child safety and may be required to lift children alone or in pairs.
Must be willing and able to swim, hike, play sports, and participate in physical activities. Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.)
Proficient interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills. Ability to agree as well as adhere to Seabird Island Band Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Information Technology (IT) Policies and Procedures, etc.
Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó: lō culture, traditions and language or willingness to learn.
Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
