Educational Support Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to support a student at the elementary school level. The successful candidate will work under the general direction of the classroom teacher(s), the teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or the teacher of the Visually impaired, and will report to the District Principal of Inclusive Learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance to students, including academic and personal support
  • Monitor student behavior and facilitate the inclusion of the student in the school setting
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized support plans
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents to ensure a smooth and supportive learning environment
Requirements
  • Post-secondary certificate in child/adolescent development or behavior management, including non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Current First Aid certification
  • Certificate in ASL level one or equivalent, and a willingness to learn Signed English or Signed Supported Speech and/or Cued Speech
  • Provincial Outreach Program Deaf Blind Course (or equivalent college course)
  • Personal care may be necessary
Working Conditions

This is a 10-month continuing, 30 hours per week, CUPE 947 position with the hourly rate of pay being $32.42, plus a comprehensive benefits plan after successful completion of probation.
