Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the role of Youth Outreach Program Coordinator. This position will involve collaborating with the WWEST Program Manager and Dr. Jennifer Jakobi to co-design and facilitate in-person school and community-based events that promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education among youth in grades K-12.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to organize and facilitate Intergenerational events in communities across BC/Yukon
  • Develop and implement engaging STEM lessons linked to BC Education curriculum, and facilitate such lessons in K – 12 classrooms across BC/Yukon
  • Coordinate with team members to purchase classroom/event supplies as required
  • Support the development of a network within the STEM community
  • Promote program activities through various platforms
  • Support team members in collecting and maintaining metrics and data for program reporting
  • Collaborate on creating newsletters to be distributed through local school division networks and program contacts
  • Co-organize and co-facilitate Winter, March, and/or Summer Youth Camps
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members

Requirements

  • High school graduation, some additional training in a related field, and a minimum of two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Teachers Certification or equivalent education and experience preferred
  • Experience with youth is an asset
  • Clean Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record check
  • Full COVID vaccination required
  • Driver's license and own transportation required

Performance Competencies and Criteria

  • Ability to teach in a fast-paced environment with the support of teachers/school staff
  • Physically able to care for children of all ages and abilities
  • Adaptability and flexibility in task execution
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Attention to detail in both written and verbal communication
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Understanding of BC Educational programming is an asset

Working Environment

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the WWEST Program Manager and Dr. Jennifer Jakobi, and will be required to participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members. The individual in this role must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive to mitigate potential consequences and ensure the seamless execution of diverse responsibilities.
