Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Winter Operator to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As a Winter Operator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and accessibility of our roads and sidewalks during the winter months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain various pieces of equipment and vehicles, including snow blowers, plow trucks, and sanders.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections and maintain accurate documentation as per MTO and City of Hamilton policies.
  • Interact with the public, supervisors, and co-workers in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Remove snow from sidewalks, pathways, and roads using shovels, plows, blowers, sanders, or salters.
  • Perform duties in various locations, including rural and urban settings, and work in adverse road and weather conditions.
  • Assist with pothole filling, manual labor, traffic control, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Work with competent knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and City of Hamilton policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Previous operator experience in roadway and sidewalk snow plowing/spreading/removal operations.
  • Previous road maintenance experience, including winter and summer programs.
  • Ability to operate vehicles, tools, and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Highway Traffic Act.
  • Valid Class "DZ" driver's license and a clear abstract.
