Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Winter Operator to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As a key member of our Transportation Operations & Maintenance Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient removal of snow and ice from our roadways and sidewalks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain various pieces of equipment and vehicles, including snow blowers, plow trucks, and backhoes, to clear snow and ice from roadways and sidewalks.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections and maintain accurate documentation as per MTO and City of Hamilton policies and procedures.
  • Interact with the public, supervisors, and co-workers in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Remove snow from sidewalks, pathways, and roads using shovels, plows, blowers, sanders, or salters.
  • Perform duties in various locations, including rural and urban settings, and work in adverse road and weather conditions.
Requirements
  • Previous operator experience related to roadway and sidewalk snow plowing/spreading/removal operations.
  • Previous road maintenance experience, including winter and summer programs.
  • Ability to operate vehicles, tools, and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, and Hours of Service Regulations.
  • Valid Class "DZ" driver's license and a clear abstract.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in adverse road and weather conditions, including snow, ice, and extreme temperatures. You must be able to lift a minimum of 23kgs and occasionally lift up to 45 kg. You will also be required to work shifts, including weekends, nights, and on-callouts.
