Fort McKay First Nation seeks a skilled Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team in Fort McKay, Alberta. This full-time permanent position offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in land conservation and management, supporting the protection of Fort McKay reserve lands. As an Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for developing environmental management plans, coordinating site assessments, and monitoring land-based activities for compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments: Approve project terms of reference, review EIA reports, and coordinate monitoring of mitigation strategies and commitments.
  • Manage Environmental Site Assessments: Coordinate site cleanups, remediation, and reclamation projects.
  • Lead Environmental Programs: Implement on-reserve environmental management, conservation, and protection programs.
  • Conduct Inspections and Site Visits: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policies related to tenants' leases, move-ins, spills, and emergencies.
  • Write Reports and Presentations: Prepare environmental monitoring summaries, weekly reports, and other required reporting.
  • Liaise with Stakeholders: Work with government agencies, stakeholders, and other departments on various environmental initiatives.
Requirements
  • University Degree: In Environmental Science, Reclamation, or a similar discipline.
  • Pilot Certificate: Transport Canada Basic or Advanced drone (RPAS) pilot certificate is an asset.
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite) and ability to learn new software applications and platforms are essential.
  • First Nations Experience: Experience working in a First Nations community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values is a definite asset.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check: Required.
