Vaccine Preventable Diseases Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Immunization Nurse to join our team at Fraser Health. As an integral member of our Public Health Services team, you will provide immunization services to individuals, families, and communities in accordance with the Population Health/Health Promotion Model.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate immunization services for individuals, families, groups, and communities in schools, health units, communities, and outreach locations.
- Work in collaboration with the Public Health Nurse to conduct immunization clinics for eligible clients, assessing needs, establishing informed consent, preparing and administering injections, and observing and responding to reactions.
- Advise clients of adverse reactions and contraindications, provide after-care instructions, and related documentation, following the BC Centre for Disease Control Immunization Policy.
- Complete immunization records, record statistical immunization data, and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Immunize children and adults against vaccine-preventable diseases, conduct immunization clinics, and ensure cold chain procedures are followed in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Establish effective working relationships and partnerships with other professions, community members, agencies, and schools, as part of an interdisciplinary/inter-sectoral team.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, provide input into the review and revision of immunization policies and procedures, and attend meetings to promote improvements to client care and the efficient and safe operation of the program.
- Participate in research and special projects in collaboration with relevant personnel, collect data, interpret data, and provide input for further analysis as required.
- Provide formal presentations and educational programs for selected population groups via telephone, one-on-one, and group settings.
- Act as a preceptor or mentor to assigned new nursing staff and students, share information, demonstrate care activities, and participate in orientation.
- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Six month recent related nursing experience providing immunization services or clinical experience including assessing and treating infants/children/youth.
- Valid British Columbia driver's licence.
- Personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
- Broad knowledge of immunization and related reactions and contraindications.
- Demonstrated ability to administer injections and recognize adverse reactions.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team, groups, and other professionals with a multi-disciplinary environment in a diverse community.
- Demonstrated ability to teach clients and families.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment, including relevant computer applications.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, problem-solve, and prioritize work in a continuously changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with and promote change.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
