Community Outreach Specialist

**Job Summary**
The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Outreach Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our outreach team, you will play a vital role in providing client services for homeless and marginalized individuals, networking with community service and health agencies, and maintaining accurate client records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine intake processes and make informed decisions in accordance with established procedures.
- Coordinate intake with shelter staff and attend case management meetings to report on new intakes.
- Record intake processes and decisions using the BC Housing Case Planning database (HIFIS).
- Identify and connect clients with appropriate programs at the Centre of Hope.
- Document all methods of communication with clients daily in case files.
- Advocate on behalf of clients as needed.
- Develop comprehensive case histories for all outreach clients.
- Liaise with referral sources and external agencies as required.
- Collaborate with government and community funders to ensure funding is in place.
- Provide comprehensive program orientation for clients and residents.
- Foster positive relationships with community social services agencies and resources.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Up to two years of Community College education.
- Certificate or Diploma in Human Sciences or Addictions.
- Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC).
- Appropriate immunization measures.
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR.
- Valid Driver's License.
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of prior related experience, including frontline work in a social services setting or experience in a related field.
Other Requirements:
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
- Solid administrative skills.
- Training in Crisis and Skills that focus on the prevention of homelessness.
- Understanding of the needs of victims of absolute homelessness.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate will be exposed to minor to moderate injury or illness risks due to physical attacks, infectious diseases, sharp objects, and other hazardous situations. Precautionary measures include Universal Precautions, current Certification in First Aid/CPR, appropriate immunization and vaccinations, and Armatus Online Abuse Prevention Training.
