Senior Director, Product Management

This is a senior management role that oversees the strategy and roadmap of Telesat Lightspeed products and services. Telesat Lightspeed is a global telco network based on LEO (low earth orbit) satellites, launching services globally in 2027.

Role Overview

As the Head of Product Management, you will lead efforts to define offerings across all our target markets (enterprise, telcos, aviation, maritime, government) and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to launch them successfully. Your role will include identifying target market needs, coordinating new offering development with engineering, price optimally to maximize value capture and overseeing product lifecycle management.

Main Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough market research and competitive analysis to uncover trends, customer pain points, and growth opportunities.
  • Engage directly with enterprise and government clients to gather insights, validate product concepts, and refine offerings.
  • Craft and execute a bold product vision and strategy that aligns with Telesat Lightspeed mission and growth objectives.
  • Develop and prioritize a flexible product roadmap that responds to emerging opportunities, market needs, and technological advancements.
  • Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept through market launch and overall profitability, ensuring agility and rapid iteration.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, design, and other key teams to build market-relevant and cutting-edge satellite telecom products and solutions.
  • Evangelize offerings to prospects and support training of sales and sales engineers on offerings.
  • Support development of customer solutions for strategic customer needs.
  • Work with legal team to develop appropriate documents for sales and support contracts.
  • Oversee standard rate card for the product catalog and adapt per market changes.
  • Assemble and lead a high-energy, agile product management team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Mentor team members and drive performance to achieve ambitious product goals.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to align product initiatives with strategic business goals.
  • Communicate product plans, progress, and performance metrics to stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage the product budget, making strategic decisions to optimize resource allocation and drive financial sustainability.
  • Track Sales and Profitability of the products and service offerings.
  • Monitor product performance and key metrics, using data-driven insights to enhance profitability and value.
  • Ensure product offerings meet regulatory requirements and industry standards, particularly those relevant to satellite communications and government contracts.
  • Stay on the cutting edge of technology and industry trends, driving continuous innovation and improvement.
  • Adapt quickly to changing market conditions and evolving customer needs, embracing a startup mindset.
Education and Experience

We are looking for a candidate with at least 10 years of relevant experience in product management, preferably in the telecom sector serving enterprise and government markets. A Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field is required, with an MBA or advanced degree preferred.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of communications technology and its application to enterprise and government markets, especially in satcom context. They will also have strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach.

Experience in market analysis, customer engagement, and agile product development is essential. Proficiency in budgeting and financial performance analysis is also required. The ability to prioritize must-have features from nice-to-haves is a must.

Fluency in English is necessary, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency and ability to get things done is essential.
