About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority seeks a skilled Occupational Therapist to join our Mental Health & Addictions team.

This permanent full-time position offers a competitive salary of $33.96-$42.89 per hour, along with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

Job Description:

As an Occupational Therapist, you will function as a member of the Mental Health & Addictions Program and the multi-disciplinary team, participating in the planning, development, provision, and evaluation of mental health and addiction services.

You will exhibit sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the framework and objectives of the program, incorporating into daily practice the core competencies and values of the organization.

About You

We are seeking a candidate who possesses a graduate degree in occupational therapy from an accredited university program, is eligible for membership in the Canadian Occupational Therapy Association, and registration to practice occupational therapy in Nova Scotia.

Prior experience as an occupational therapist in an inpatient/outpatient mental health and addiction setting is highly valued, particularly recent experience within the last five years.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with patients/residents, families, other healthcare providers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture of respect, safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A graduate degree in occupational therapy from an accredited university program.
  • Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Registration to practice occupational therapy in Nova Scotia.
  • Prior experience as an occupational therapist in an inpatient/outpatient mental health and addiction setting, particularly recent experience within the last five years.
  • Experience in developing collaborative partnerships and initiatives with other agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide effective addiction and mental health/occupational therapy assessment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to pursuing continuing education to maintain or enhance professional knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with patients/residents, families, other healthcare providers, and staff.
