Cost Analyst Job Description

Are you passionate about financial analysis and budgeting? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same? We're seeking a skilled Cost Analyst to join our team at Plan Group.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project management teams to establish and close projects in our ERP system
  • Upload Work Breakdown Structures and reallocate as needed
  • Prepare monthly cost projections for multiple projects and project managers
  • Coordinate and assist in reviewing monthly re-forecasting with project managers
  • Identify and investigate cost/revenue variances and implement corrective actions
  • Analyze financial data and prepare reports/analysis to support project managers
  • Support various levels of project reporting, including daily, weekly, and monthly
  • Coordinate Time & Material billings, reviewing rates and mark-ups
  • Assist with month-end processes and post necessary journal entries
  • Prepare monthly financial business unit reports along with supporting schedules
  • Ensure understanding of administrative and billing aspects of project contracts
  • Responsible for accurate, timely coordination, collection, compilation, and proofing of financial reporting information
  • Working knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting for construction contracts
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and varying levels of technical expertise
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required
  • 5+ years of experience in cost accounting or analysis within a large organization
  • Experience in construction or related industry preferred
  • MS Dynamics experience a strong asset
  • Able to identify and investigate project cost variances
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Able to work in a multidisciplinary project team environment
  • Self-motivated and works well in a team environment
  • Ability to handle strict deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Ability to perform with a high level of discretion, professionalism, and integrity
