Job Summary

The Department of Family Medicine at Dalhousie University is seeking a highly skilled Financial Assistant to perform day-to-day financial activities for the operating accounts of the department. Reporting to the Financial Manager, this role will be responsible for maintaining the department's financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Update and maintain the department's accounting system, ensuring accurate and timely financial records.
  • Reconcile financial statements and investigate discrepancies.
  • Perform payroll functions, including calculating bi-weekly and monthly pay for independent contractors and university employees.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget, quarterly reviews, and annual financial audit.
  • Coordinate financial administration for the Dalhousie University and Academic Family Medicine Inc. budgets.
  • Maintain and reconcile invoices, ledgers, and accounts for the Nova Scotia Practice Ready Assessment Program.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field, with a strong background in accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a financial or payroll function, preferably in a university or healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Assets
  • Experience with accounting software, such as QuickBooks or Ceridian.
  • Knowledge of DalMedix and other relevant systems.
