Job Title: Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse

Job Summary:

Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our team in the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit/Psychiatric High Acuity Unit. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide and coordinate the delivery of psychiatric nursing care services to patients experiencing serious mental health and bio-psychosocial problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care of assigned clients
  • Conduct physical and psychosocial assessments, monitor medical and psychiatric conditions, and provide psycho-education to individuals, clients, and their support systems
  • Identify actual or potential problems and strengths through nursing diagnosis, plan interventions, perform planned interventions, and evaluate outcomes
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and document psycho-social rehabilitative plans in collaboration with clients' support systems and interdisciplinary team members
  • Facilitate individual and/or group treatment using cognitive, behavioral, educational, problem-solving, and crisis intervention methods
  • Provide individual supportive counseling to clients and families in accordance with approved treatment methods
  • Act as an advocate to protect and promote clients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing
  • One year of recent related mental health experience in an acute, tertiary, or community setting working with clients experiencing an acute episode of serious, complex, and persistent mental illness and their families
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety-type interventions, including crisis intervention
  • Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment
  • Working knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery
  • Counseling and group facilitation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team
