Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Addictions Medicine Consultant to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide treatment and care management services for individuals with substance use concerns and disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized strength-based treatment plans in collaboration with clients, their families, and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide direct nursing care to designated clients, support direct care staff, and engage or reconnect clients to care in the community.
  • Work with the Addictions Medicine Consult Team to initiate measures that relieve crisis and emergent situations, manage aggressive and suicidal behaviors, and share harm reduction practices and resources with staff.
  • Prescribe Opioid Agonist Therapy within established parameters and monitor client response and provide ongoing information to clients, families, and natural supports on activities of daily living, medication use, side effects, and integration into lifestyle.
Qualifications
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Eligible for completion of BC Provincial Opiate Addiction Treatment Support Program course and approved related preceptorship.
  • Two years recent related experience working with individuals with substance use disorders or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of substance use and harm reduction strategies, including assessment and intervention, current pharmacological approaches to substance use treatment, and treatment/recovery.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in working with persons who use substances, community, social, and mental health resources and services available for clients experiencing substance use challenges.
  • Able to complete initial and ongoing client assessments, provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety-type interventions, including crisis intervention.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with our interprofessional team to provide person-centered care, promote empowerment, and enhance the quality of life for individuals with substance use disorders.

The estimated salary for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
