Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance is seeking a skilled Underwriter to join our Canadian Financial Lines team in Toronto.

We are looking for a candidate with 2 to 6 years of experience underwriting management liability, or a broker with 3 to 5 years of experience in the financial institutions segment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing and growing a book of business aligned with the team's strategic focus.
  • Expanding broker and customer relationships.
  • Underwriting efficiently while maintaining discipline, diligence, and portfolio strength.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with a high level of service orientation, agility, and decisiveness.
  • Underwriting complex and challenging risks, developing creative solutions for partners.
  • Representing the company with integrity and leadership in the marketplace.
  • Effectively communicating BHSI's value proposition to brokers and customers.
  • Collaborating with the in-house claims team to provide a positive and transparent experience for customers.
  • Working closely with teammates across all product lines.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated understanding of financial analysis and financial markets.
  • Foundational to high-level understanding of policy forms and coverage types, including Directors and Officers Liability, Errors and Omissions, Employment Practices Liability, Cybersecurity, and Fidelity.
  • Proven ability to develop and nurture a network of broker and customer relationships.
  • Collaborative and team-focused mentality.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commercial, or BA in Economics.
