Agriculture Leader for a Sustainable Future

About the Opportunity
The Olds College Smart Farm (OCSF) Director plays a pivotal role in overseeing the strategic direction, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance of the 3,600-acre mixed crops and livestock enterprise. Spanning two provinces, this entity is an integral part of the College's Smart Ag Ecosystem, supporting hands-on learning, applied research, and demonstration activities aligned with the social purpose of Transforming Agriculture for a Better World.
Key Responsibilities
- To ensure seamless collaboration with academic departments, continuing education, Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI), various clubs and user groups, external stakeholders, industry partners, and other customers, providing exceptional customer service and measured outcomes.
- Fostering the implementation of cutting-edge farm production practices and technologies, leveraging sensors, devices, controls, monitors, and software to inform decision-making and drive profitability, productivity, and sustainability.
- Providing leadership that structures and resources the Smart Farm operations team for success in a dynamic environment, ensuring a high degree of integration with student and faculty initiatives, applied research projects, and overall crop and livestock production efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- A strategic, visionary leader with strong management experience and a passion for driving innovation in agriculture.
- A degree in Agricultural Production, Science, Management, or a related area, combined with at least 10 years of experience managing teams, systems, processes, and multiple stakeholders.
- An in-depth understanding of the agriculture industry and primary production, including both crops and livestock.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, make informed decisions, and solve complex problems.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Google suite, with experience in farm data management systems considered an asset.
About Olds College
Olds College offers a competitive remuneration package, including an estimated salary range of $120,000 - $160,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, as well as benefits such as a defined benefit pension plan, extended health, dental, and prescription drugs, health/personal spending account, generous vacation leave, paid holiday closure, volunteer leave, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
