About the Role

This position presents a unique opportunity for a strategic thinker and excellent communicator to contribute to prison health and justice issues.

Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Collaborate with the leadership team to oversee the implementation and evaluation of anti-racism and anti-oppression initiatives.
  • Advocacy and Community Relations
    • Nurture relationships with partners, community members, government agencies, and advocacy groups to advance PASAN's mission and strategic priorities.
    • Develop and implement advocacy initiatives in collaboration with stakeholders.
    • Cultivate partnerships with other relevant organizations to support or develop advocacy positions on prison health, justice issues, policy change, and harm reduction programs.
    • Represent PASAN at coalitions, networks, and events.
  • Program Management and Communications
    • Stay informed about recent developments related to harm reduction, HIV, HCV, and correctional facilities.
    • Oversee the creation of communications and educational materials, including social media posts, website updates, educational resources, and publications.
    • Develop and publish communications, such as calls to action, letters to elected officials, and opinion articles.
    • Conduct annual performance evaluations and identify training opportunities for staff.
    • Manage assigned program budgets and mitigate risks as needed.
    • Identify fundraising strategies and opportunities to support education, advocacy, and policy change work.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of structural, economic, social, and political contexts affecting incarcerated individuals and those previously incarcerated in Ontario.
  • Knowledge and application of cultural safety principles, trauma-informed approaches, and willingness to work closely with over-represented communities.
  • A strong commitment to advancing justice, equity, accessibility, and inclusion in programs and activities.
  • Experience leading community development efforts that uplifts voices of over-represented communities.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing successful advocacy campaigns in nonprofit contexts.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience working alongside equity-deserving communities and designing low-barriers services and programs.
  • Ability to facilitate, deliver presentations, and write compelling content for various mediums and contexts.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to translate government policies into action-oriented language.

Estimated Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per annum
