Job Summary

The North End Community Health Centre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Harm Reduction Manager to join our team. As a key member of our management team, you will provide leadership and direction to our Managed Alcohol Program (MAP) team, supporting the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and management to the MAP team, including full-time and part-time staff and volunteers.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and identify professional development and training opportunities.
  • Participate in hiring, terminating, and disciplining employees in consultation with Human Resources and the Director of Primary Care.
  • Plan and coordinate outreach activities, creating daily schedules for MAP team members to ensure outreach clients are seen in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for evaluating and reporting on MAP activities and projects, providing the Director with interim and final reports on the MAP program and initiatives as per funding agreement.
  • Engage with and represent the organization in the community, developing relationships with organizations and participating in stakeholder relations in collaboration with the Director of Primary Care.
  • Budgetary responsibilities for HR and operational activities, including expenses of the program.
  • Conduct research and create policies and protocols for MAP in collaboration with the medical physician.
  • Manage the Safer Supply Program to support and advance harm reduction across the organization.
  • Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate the safer supply initiative, in collaboration with MOSH physicians and safer supply support workers.
  • Hire and manage key harm reduction and healthcare staff within the safe supply initiative.
  • Identify effective harm reduction strategies and work to advance and implement at a community level.
  • Enhance policies, procedures, and obligations associated with harm reduction, safe supply, and peer-based approaches.
  • Participate in community or professional committees, advisory boards, community initiatives, education, etc.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in social, health fields, addictions, or community work required.
  • Minimum of two years of community health experience, or equivalent setting, working in a community outreach setting with community members who use substances.
  • Strong understanding of harm reduction principles, social justice, and the social determinants of health.
  • Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization.
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
  • Values diversity with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Leadership style is inclusive, strategic, innovative, and influencing.
  • The ability to effectively lead people through change.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and work strategically and operationally.
  • Ability to make judgment calls that will impact the health and safety of the participants of MAP.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license required, with a minimum of 2 years driving experience, clean driver abstract.
  • Strong skills related to adaptability, time management, problem-solving, judgment, communication, interpersonal relations, and boundary management.
Work Environment
  • Supportive, exciting, and challenging environment.
  • Constant interaction with vulnerable people, some aggressive or verbally abusive.
  • Requires bending and carrying heavy objects (25lbs).
  • Up to 2-4 hours of driving per day. Working in various environmental conditions (weather, varied community settings).
  • Lifting, stacking, and organizing heavy objects (25lbs).
