Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health Centre is seeking a dedicated Community Outreach Worker (COW) to join our team. This role plays a vital part in providing comprehensive support to adults and their families navigating mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or gambling issues.

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, you will deliver a range of clinical services within both clinic and community settings. Your responsibilities will encompass screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management, individual and group treatment, and more.

As a COW, you'll be instrumental in connecting individuals with essential resources and navigating the complexities of the healthcare system. You will advocate for clients, build strong relationships within the community, and contribute to a recovery-oriented approach.

About You:
  • You hold a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree and are registered or eligible for registration with the relevant professional regulatory body.
  • You possess at least one year of post-BSW clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions.
  • You have a strong understanding of screening and risk assessment, including suicide risk assessment.
  • Your expertise extends to offering brief, supportive interventions focused on harm reduction and recovery.
  • You are adept at navigating challenging situations, de-escalating conflicts, and providing crisis support.
  • You excel in group facilitation and possess strong motivational interviewing skills to engage with clients and families.
  • Your knowledge of community resources is extensive, and you are familiar with program development and community engagement methods.
  • You are passionate about recovery-oriented practice and client-centered care.
