About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Development and Community Liaison Specialist to join our team at The Salvation Army. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing, instructing, and coordinating community-based programs in accordance with our mission, values, and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversight of specific community ministries and programs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and applied to all program initiatives.
  • Coordination and oversight of various community outreach programs, including the Christmas Kettle Campaign, Life-skills Development Classes, Income Tax Clinic, Support Groups, etc.
  • Providing program support for family ministries such as Afterschool program, Sports Outreach program, Kids Club, Baby Song, day camps, etc., both at the Corps and at the CFS.
  • Assisting in ensuring volunteer safety, and adherence to all health and safety standards.
  • Researching and developing materials necessary to supplement the curriculum for all new community ministries programming.
  • Creating engaging activities for clients to participate in and develop relationships.
  • Assessing community needs and reviewing client feedback to determine potential alternate programming and develop a strategy for implementation.
  • Negotiating and referring to The Salvation Army or community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and programs.
  • Attending inter-agency and other social service agency community groups as directed.
  • Recruiting new volunteers and providing oversight, guidance, coaching, and direction to volunteers.
  • Completing program reports, logs of activities, and statistical recording as required in a timely, accurate, and organized manner.
  • Oversight of the Christmas Kettle Campaign and recruiting necessary support staff as required.
  • Actively promoting White Rock Community and Family Services programs within the community.
  • SUPPORTING THE RECRUITMENT AND REGISTRATION OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH FOR SALVATION ARMY PROVINCIAL CAMPING PROGRAMS AND DEVELOPING CONNECTIONS WITH THESE FAMILIES.
  • FOLLOWING UP WITH CHILDREN/YOUTH WHO ATTEND SALVATION ARMY SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS, INCLUDING THEIR FAMILIES, TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS AND ESTABLISH ACTIVE LINKS WITH THE CORPS AND ITS MISSION AND MINISTRIES.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Completion of a Community College Diploma, Social Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker or equivalent of at least one academic year.
  • Current, valid First Aid & CPR Certification or willingness to be trained.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience in a variety of social service programs, with some supervisory experience, and experience communicating orally and in writing.
  • Must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).
  • Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
  • Experience working with individuals of diverse culture, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background check search.
  • Work in compliance with local policies, WSBC Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Hold a valid BC Class 5 driver's license, a copy of a driver's abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Lead by example, demonstrate a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include comprehensive medical and dental insurance, paid time off, and access to ongoing training and development opportunities.
