What is the Opportunity?

As part of the Global Risk Management Operational Risk Analytics Team, you will partner with Operational Risk subject matter experts to use data-driven decision-making in monitoring and managing various aspects of risk. You will design and execute more efficient data engineering and DevOps processes, as well as work with tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Spark, PySpark, SQL, and Tableau. You will also collaborate with a highly skilled team of data engineers and data analysts to further deliver value to the organization.

What will you do?

  • Ingest and transform large-scale operational risk datasets to be used for computing key risk indicators and building operational risk models.

  • Design and optimize data pipelines for dashboarding and reporting.

  • Work with numerous data sources across the Royal Bank of Canada to help risk managers monitor operational risk.

  • Use GitHub, Airflow, Jenkins, Artifactory, and Spark to develop and deploy ETL/DAG.

  • Create software artifacts and patterns for reuse within the team.

  • Help improve data management processes towards acquiring, transforming, and storing data.

  • Leverage DevOps practices to streamline and automate software delivery.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 3+ years of experience working with the Big Data Ecosystem (Hadoop, Spark, Hive).

  • Professional software development experience with Python, Spark, Linux, and SQL.

  • Experience integrating codebases with Git, Jenkins, Artifactory, and similar tools.

  • Experience using job scheduling tools (Airflow preferred) to manage ETLs.

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other STEM majors. Master's/Ph.D. considered an asset.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with REST API and microservice frameworks.

  • Experience working with containers (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Experience working in an Agile team.

  • Experience with dashboarding and reporting tools (Tableau).

  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills both in written and verbal.
