Job Title: Part-time Learning Commons Facilitator

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Part-time Learning Commons Facilitator to join our team at Glenbow Elementary School. As a key member of our school community, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for our students.

About the Role:

The Part-time Learning Commons Facilitator will be responsible for facilitating traditional and digital resources for students and staff, promoting multiple literacies, and providing research assistance in an inclusive and learner-centered environment. You will work closely with teaching staff to oversee students in the Learning Commons, circulate materials, and familiarize staff and students with the structure and functions of the Learning Commons.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote multiple-literacies through instruction with a variety of resources in a Learning Commons environment
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, oversee, and provide Learning Commons services
  • Oversee students in the Learning Commons, in conjunction with teaching staff
  • Circulate Learning Commons material
  • Familiarize staff and students to the structure of the Learning Commons and its functions
  • Respond to reference questions
  • Order and process Learning Commons materials and conduct an annual inventory of Learning Commons materials
  • Coordinate inter-Learning Commons loans and audio-visual bookings
  • Monitor and coordinate volunteers to support the learning commons
  • Prepare Learning Commons displays
  • Attend Division-sponsored in-service sessions
  • Promote multiple literacies and recommend instructional materials to support curricula and assist teachers in the evaluation, selection, and use of materials
  • Coordinate the selection, ordering, circulation, and inventory of Learning Commons/media materials in order to develop a Learning Commons collection that supports the school's curriculum and content standards
  • Design an accessible, efficient, and inviting Learning Commons space for student learning
  • Manage the online Learning Commons database, including all functions related to cataloguing, circulation, patrons, reporting, and local administration
  • Provide support in the use of emerging technology in learning and critical thinking
  • Develop and maintain the school's Learning Commons webpage in accordance with RVS site policies
  • In consultation with school administration, manage the Learning Commons budget
  • Manage/host book sales, and other literary events
Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate with a Diploma or degree in Library Information Technology program or related field, and a minimum of 1-year related experience working in a Learning Commons or resource centre. Previous experience working in a school division environment is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered.

We offer a competitive salary range of $24.92 - $30.25 per hour, 6% vacation pay, benefits plan, professional development and training opportunities, and free parking.
