Aquatic Program Supervisor

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aquatic Supervisor Student to join our team. As a key member of our aquatic team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our aquatic programs and facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Implement and manage aquatic programs, ensuring compliance with CK Recreation policies and procedures.
- Lead a team of students in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, promoting a positive and inclusive team culture.
- Deliver high-quality staff training and ongoing evaluation, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Manage and maintain a team environment, providing education and leadership to staff.
- Attend all aquatic training sessions and meetings, staying up-to-date on the latest industry developments and best practices.
- Maintain qualifications and seek additional training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Guard swims with a focus on incident prevention, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for patrons.
- Provide instruction in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program, Aqua Fitness, and other aquatic programs, emphasizing safety education, skills development, endurance, and enjoyment.
- Ensure all lifesaving equipment is properly maintained, available, and in working order, implementing trained rescue procedures as needed.
- Perform high-level first aid and rescue techniques, following established emergency procedures.
- Follow policies and procedures outlined in the CKRec Aquatic Manual, maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrity.
- Maintain a positive image with the public, providing excellent customer service and responding to concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with handling concerns from patrons and parents, resolving issues in a fair and respectful manner.
- Assist in facilitating pre-season training for all aquatic staff, ensuring a smooth transition into the new season.
- Participate in the delivery and operation of programs and services, taking the lead on activities and programs, modeling energy and enthusiasm.
- Enforce pool rules consistently, tactfully, and promptly, maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all patrons.
- Supervise and implement aquatic programs, modeling energy and enthusiasm, and promoting a positive and inclusive team culture.
- Open, close, and clean the aquatic facility as scheduled, maintaining a high level of cleanliness and organization.
- Maintain accurate daily pool logs, incident reports, deposits, program participation, budget, and evaluation records, providing valuable insights and data for future improvements.
- Assist in the completion of the final report and budget recommendations, ensuring a smooth transition into the new season.
- Work both indoors and outdoors, with afternoon, evening, and weekend hours, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Prefers students in their final year of high school or enrolled in post-secondary education, with one to two years of experience at a pool setting and a proven track record of taking a lead role at the pool.
- Previous experience writing/giving staff/peer performance/job evaluations is an asset.
- LSSC Swim Instructor certification.
- Standard First Aid with CPR 'C' certification that meets WSIB regulations.
- LSSC National Lifeguard – Pool or Red Cross Pool Lifeguard certification.
- High Five: Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
- LSSC Lifesaving Instructor certification is an asset.
- CALA/Water Art Certification is an asset.
- LSSC Examiner Status is an asset.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.
Driver's License/Vehicle Requirements:A valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred, as this position may require travel.
Background Check Requirements:The successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment.
Essential Physical and/or Safety Requirements:- Physical NLS standards or Red Cross Lifeguarding standards must be maintained throughout employment.
- Maintenance (wearing proper footwear and PPE).
- Completion of Health & Safety Training for Supervisors.
- Protecting self from the sun (sunscreen, hat, and hydrating with water).
- Non-slip footwear (no crocs, spongy flip-flops, etc.).
- Bending: frequent stopping, crouching (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs – toys up to 13.64 kgs or 30 lbs – stairs or dock removals up to 22.73 or 50 lbs).
- Walking: frequent walking on level surface, balancing (scanning during a guard rotation, teaching on the deck).
- Sitting: frequent sitting in a chair (possibly over 30 minutes at a time) (guarding from lifeguard chair).
