We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Youth Recreation Program Coordinator. This exciting opportunity will involve working with children and youth in various recreation programs, providing support and guidance to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

About the Position

This is a seasonal student position working up to 24 hours per week. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in various areas within Recreation Services, including camps, aquatics, and Play Pod park programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist staff in daily operations, ensuring program delivery meets high standards
  • Support special event preparation and delivery tasks, maintaining a positive image with the public
  • Implement High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development, promoting healthy lifestyles and social skills
  • Attend all staff training sessions/meetings, staying up-to-date on policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records, enforcing rules consistently and tactfully
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to a positive team environment

Additional Responsibilities by Program Area

Aquatic Programs:

  • Assist lifeguards in emergency situations, prioritizing safety and well-being
  • Maintain pool facilities, adhering to health and safety protocols
  • Collect swim fees, prepare bank deposits, and provide excellent customer service
  • Answer phones, redirecting calls when necessary, and maintain accurate pool logs

Camps:

  • Assist with setup and takedown of camp activities, ensuring smooth transitions
  • Supervise program participants on field trips, promoting a safe and fun environment
  • Provide lunch coverage for day camp staff, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
  • Contribute to planning and implementation of camp activities, catering to diverse age groups and interests

Play Pods:

  • Participate in fun outdoor activities, promoting physical activity and social interaction
  • Demonstrate energy and enthusiasm while delivering Play Pod activities, engaging with participants and their families
  • Model positive behavior, encouraging respect and inclusivity among team members and program participants
  • Assist with equipment setup and cleanup, adhering to health and safety guidelines
  • Effectively communicate with participants, parents, and colleagues, fostering strong relationships

Essential Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in school full-time for the 2023/2024 winter term or returning to school full-time in the 2024 fall term
  • 14 years of age or older, with some locations requiring 16 years of age or older due to specific responsibilities
  • Access to reliable transportation to and from various locations

Certifications/Memberships/Licenses

  • Current Certification in Standard First Aid/CPR (WSIB approved)
  • Certified with the High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development

Work Environment/Hours of Work

  • This position involves working both indoors and outdoors, with varying schedules including afternoons, evenings, and weekends

Estimated Salary: $15-$20 per hour
