Medical Specialist Infusion Nurse

About the Role:
The Medical Specialist Infusion Nurse delivers and monitors specialized infusion, injectable or oral pharmacological treatments in home and/or clinic settings. Under the direction of the Specialty Pharma Nurse Manager, this role is responsible for monitoring patients for infusion-related reactions, accurately documenting procedures, and submitting reports in a timely manner. Effective communication with the Specialty Nursing Supervisor and/or Specialty Pharma Nurse Manager ensures patient safety and satisfaction.

Work Schedule:
This is a 1-year contract position requiring 30 hours per week. The work schedule is Monday-Thursday, 12:30pm-6:30pm, and Friday, 12:00pm-6:00pm. A valid driver's license with access to a vehicle is required for travel within Toronto, with mileage compensation provided.
A Day in the Life:
- Develop and review individualized nursing care plans for each patient.
- Conduct patient health assessments and medication administration teaching.
- Obtain IV access through peripheral IV initiation or central line access (PICC, IVAD, etc.).
- Prepare and administer specialized intravenous or injectable pharmacological treatments.
- Provide patient care by utilizing observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, counseling, health teaching, and reporting adverse events to the immediate supervisor or required stakeholders.
- Perform routine nursing duties according to company policies and procedures, as well as provincial body standards.
- Provide patient-centered care according to the established care plan or medical directive.
- Maintain role-related, medication, and pharmacovigilance training as required.
- Complete all other duties as requested.
Job Qualifications:
What You Bring to the Team:
To be successful in this role, you will possess the following qualifications:
- Graduated from an accredited nursing education program with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or equivalent.
- Current registration and good standing with the provincial nursing regulatory body.
- Valid driver's license with access to a vehicle for travel within Toronto.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required for the clinic role.
- Chemotherapy-Biotherapy course completion is an asset.
- Experience in acute care and/or administering specialty pharmaceuticals.
- Experience with home care is an asset.
- Critical care experience (e.g., ER or ICU), infusion clinic, or oncology experience is preferred.
- Exceptional peripheral IV initiation skills.
- Experience with central lines (IVAD, PICC, etc.) is an asset.
- Exceptional patient assessment skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Able to manage relationships with exceptional customer service.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to handle difficult situations.
- Able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Able to perform and prioritize multiple functions and tasks.
- Able to read and interpret technical instructions related to patient care.
- Able to transcribe physician's orders.
Compensation and Benefits:
This role offers a competitive salary of $75,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience. Additional benefits include mileage compensation for travel within Toronto and opportunities for professional growth and development.
