Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Executive Director to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare in our province.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic business advice and medical expertise to our Executive Team, VP Medicine, and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Operational Planning: Identify, develop, and implement operational and clinical strategies, programs, and initiatives to improve healthcare services.
  • Clinical Leadership: Provide senior clinical leadership and advocacy for major infrastructure projects that impact healthcare delivery.
  • Performance Management: Ensure that all health services and activities are aligned with our objectives and establish effective performance management within the Zone.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Lead the collaboration and cooperation between Zones to deliver effective, quality, and safe patient-centered care.
  • Leadership and Oversight: Provide leadership and oversight of programs, services, and activities for the effective operation of the Zone.
  • Innovation and Improvement: Drive improvement and innovation in service delivery models and achieve agreed-upon outcome and performance goals in the Zone.
  • Resource Management: Direct the implementation of service strategies congruent with our quality and sustainability plan within assigned Zone.
  • Integration and Partnerships: Enable effective integration of Zone programs and services with sites and services.
  • Financial Planning: In partnership with Financial Services, develop a multi-million dollar operating budget and allocate fiscal resources.
  • Performance Improvement: In partnership with Quality and System Performance, establish effective performance management within the Zone to support accountability for Zone performance improvement.
  • Culture and Representation: Develop and maintain a strong patient/client-centered focus and culture and represent the Zone to the external market.
  • Committee Participation: Lead or participate on all pertinent medical, administrative, and Board committees.
  • Learner Placements: Promote and support medical and dental learner placements within the Zone.
Requirements
  • Medical Doctorate: Medical Doctorate (with or without specialty) with evidence of past and ongoing leadership training.
  • Leadership Experience: 5-7 years' experience at a senior leadership level involved in the planning and delivering medical programs and services.
  • Leadership Skills: Experience engaging, mentoring, and empowering teams and stakeholders in a collaborative, participative manner.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communications and presentation skills, both verbal and written, with tact and diplomacy.
  • Financial Planning: Strong human resource and financial planning experience and competencies.
  • Initiative and Vision: Ability to exercise initiative and vision, be resourceful, work independently, work cooperatively, adapt easily to changes in direction, and provide effective leadership.
