In this pivotal role, the Chief of Hospitalist Services will report directly to the Zone Medical Executive Director and collaborate closely with an Administrative Co-Lead. This position is essential for providing both strategic direction and operational oversight within the department, working in tandem with relevant administrative leaders.
The Chief of Hospitalist Services will:
Be accountable for the administrative operations of the department, conducting regular meetings and providing comprehensive minutes to the Zone Medical Executive Director;
Collaborate with Hospitalist Site Leads, Medical Site Leads, and operational leadership to ensure seamless service delivery and meet key patient flow objectives.
This oversight will encompass managing scheduling practices, including vacation requests, on-call rotations, and locum tenens utilization;Actively participate in the Zone Medical Advisory Committee, where you will:
Offer insights on the quality of care and treatment provided to patients;
Engage in the development, reporting, and oversight of departmental objectives, planning, budgeting, and resource allocation;
Provide recommendations regarding the physician resource needs of the department, including the number and types of physicians required, in consultation with the Zone Medical Executive Director and other key stakeholders.
Assume responsibility for organizing and implementing the clinical and educational activities of the department, ensuring alignment with the overarching priorities of the organization.
This includes ongoing monitoring of standards, quality, and resource utilization within the department;In partnership with the co-lead, develop and execute a strategic plan aimed at enhancing access and patient flow, including coordination with community hospitals and facilitating cross-facility transfers;
Attend meetings of the Access and Flow Network Council, contributing local insights and participating in the formulation of strategies, policies, and procedures that enhance patient access and flow;
Ensure the continuous maintenance and enforcement of professional standards within the department, implementing quality assurance and improvement initiatives;
Address and resolve issues related to medical staff, including those concerning workplace respect and interpersonal dynamics, and oversee complaint and disciplinary processes as necessary.
Attend relevant committee meetings as designated by the Medical Executive Director;Provide co-leadership alongside the Zone administrative director for strategic and operational planning and budgeting;
Monitor the performance and effectiveness of medical staff, addressing any identified issues as needed;
Conduct annual reviews of departmental members' performance and provide management support where necessary;
Coordinate the education of medical students and residents within the Zone, ensuring compliance with educational requirements;
Engage in clinical services planning for the Zone/organization
Collaborate with the Zone Medical Executive Director and Medical Site Leads to lead recruitment and retention efforts for the department, ensuring that onboarding processes are effectively completed with support from the Specialty Site Lead as required;
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a medical department member, demonstrating skills in engaging, mentoring, and empowering teams and stakeholders in a collaborative manner.
