Job Description: Advanced Bariatric Nurse Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Bariatric Nurse Specialist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years' experience as an NP in primary care, long-term care, acute care or continuing care, and be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in the extended Class (Primary Health Care or Adult).

The ideal candidate will possess excellent clinical skills, strong communication and interpersonal abilities, and a demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care. Key responsibilities include:

  • Diagnosing, ordering, and interpreting diagnostic tests and prescribing pharmaceuticals within scope of practice;
  • Updating policies, procedures, and standards of care for the Bariatric Program;
  • Providing clinical expertise, guidance, and education to patients and staff;
  • Assisting in the coordination of activity between surgical and medical clinics;
  • Working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and physicians;
  • Communicating abnormal findings with the team;
  • Conducting health assessments and focused physical exams on high-risk patients;
  • Facilitating transitions of care from hospital to community settings;
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and research studies;

Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following qualifications and possess the following skills:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in the extended Class (Primary Health Care or Adult);
  • Member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario preferred;
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as an NP in primary care, long-term care, acute care or continuing care;
  • CDE and CBE certification preferred;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of bariatric care, community resources, crisis work, and relevant legislation;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with all staff, clients, families, and community agencies;
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team;
  • Excellent computer skills using Office 365;
  • Knowledge of quality improvement processes, data analysis, and program development;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient-centered care;
  • Able to work independently with minimal support;
