About the Role

The Mental Health Nurse will be a key member of our team at CASA Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health, working in our Trauma program. This program focuses on nurturing connection and safety in the caregiver-child relationship after experiencing trauma. Children and youth may enter the program through one of three streams: the Outpatient Trauma Clinic, the Trauma and Attachment Group (TAG), or Consultative Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, including physical and psychosocial evaluations, to identify mental health concerns and current risk.
  • Utilize nursing processes to develop and implement individualized care plans, incorporating objective findings and collaborating with the patient and care team.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families, promoting understanding of their clinical condition, ongoing care, and management.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to ensure continuity of care and facilitate connections to primary care physicians.
  • Identify opportunities for service delivery improvements and contribute to evidence-informed practice and strategic planning.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Minimum three to five years of recent pediatric experience in an ambulatory care setting, including the care and management of children with mental health problems.
  • Membership in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and ability to apply theoretical knowledge in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Conditions of Employment
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification.
