Job Summary:


The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for the administration of first aid and subsequent treatment to injured or ill employees. This role will also involve WSIB/STD/LTD Case Management.



Key Responsibilities:

  • First Aid and Treatment: The incumbent will be responsible for the administration of first aid and subsequent treatment to injured or ill employees.
  • WSIB/STD/LTD Case Management: This role will involve WSIB/STD/LTD Case Management, including the tracking of all first aid incidents as required by Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Medical Centre and First Aid Room Management: The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for the management of the Medical Centre and satellite First Aid Rooms, including daily inspection, inventory control, and cleanliness.
  • Assessment and Treatment: The incumbent will attend to the assessment and treatment of ill or injured employees, and will respond to emergency situations both in the Centre and on the production floor.
  • Liaison and Communication: The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator will liaise and communicate with all medical and health professionals providing care to employees, and will ensure that all medical or health professional documentation concerning employees is received and logged as required.
  • WSIB Program Administration: The incumbent will act as the WSIB Program Administrator, responsible for completing all WSIB-related tasks, including the filing of Form 7s and the initiation of the Return to Work program with the support of Operations and Reliability.
  • Modified Work Tracker: The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator will maintain an up-to-date Modified Work Tracker to ensure that workers are being accommodated appropriately, and will communicate with the appropriate Team Leaders/Group Leaders/Operations Leaders/Health and Safety if updates are required.
  • Assessment and Appeal: The incumbent will review all accepted WSIB claims for potential appeal, file appeals, and will ultimately present submissions in support of the appeal.
  • Pre-Employment Medicals: The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator will assess all potential new employees via pre-employment medicals, and will communicate findings if applicable to Human Resources and Health and Safety.
  • Health Promotion Strategies: The incumbent will assess the demographics of employees and the health status of employees, and will provide no less than 6 health promotion strategies per year based on those demographics.
  • Ergonomics Assessment: The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator will assess the ergonomics of all plant areas, and will suggest possible changes to reduce the risk of injury to workers.
  • Other Duties: The incumbent will perform other duties as required for the H&S department.


Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse: The incumbent must be a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse, with a strong background in occupational health and safety.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop positive working relationships with all employees.
  • Multi-Tasking and Problem-Solving: The incumbent must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines with a high level of accuracy, and must have the ability to take the initiative and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Microsoft Office Software: The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator must be proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
