Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at William Osler Health System. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist - Transfusion Medicine Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective transfusion of blood and blood components to patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Monitor quality control results and respond appropriately to discordant results, ensuring that laboratory processes meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Specimen Management: Ensure that specimen collection, integrity, transport, and storage meet the requirements for sample processing and analysis, minimizing the risk of errors and contamination.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory analyzers and equipment, ensuring that they are functioning optimally and efficiently.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare teams to ensure that blood and blood components are available for required surgeries, and that any issues or concerns are promptly addressed.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in transfusion medicine and laboratory technology.
Requirements
  • Certification and Registration: Possess current registration with the Canadian Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO) and certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Experience and Education: Minimum two years of recent transfusion medicine experience in a hospital laboratory setting, or successful completion of relevant education within the past two years.
  • Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, maintain high productivity, and provide excellent customer service; strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
