Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at William Osler Health System. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results, while also contributing to the overall quality and safety of patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Result Verification: Verify laboratory results for accuracy and investigate unexpected abnormalities or discrepancies.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory analyzers and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Quality Control: Monitor quality control results and take corrective action as necessary to ensure compliance with laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Specimen Management: Ensure proper collection, handling, and storage of specimens to maintain their integrity and quality.
  • Discordant Findings: Refer discordant findings to appropriate personnel for further investigation and resolution.
  • Bone Marrow Collections: Assist with bone marrow collections, check specimen acceptability, and process in-house and send-out test requests.
  • Blood Product Management: Monitor temperature and expiry dates of blood and blood component products to ensure their acceptability for transfusion.
  • Operating Room Support: Check operating room lists to ensure blood products are available for required surgeries.
  • Product Issuance: Issue blood and blood component products as required.
  • Quality Management: Participate in the laboratory quality management system and contribute to process improvements.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory technology program or equivalent education (CSMLS).
  • Registration: Registered and in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
  • Experience: Minimum two years recent chemistry, hematology, and transfusion medicine experience in a hospital laboratory setting, or successful completion of all relevant education/refresher courses within the past two years.
  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, maintain high productivity, and exhibit professionalism. Strong multi-tasking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Proven ability to be a team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of Meditech, Paradigm, and other Microsoft Office computer systems.
