Job Summary:

The University Health Network is seeking a highly skilled Research Technician II to join our team at the Princess Margaret Genomics Centre. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing genomics library preparation, including RNA, whole genome, and exome library production. You will also be involved in onboarding of samples from and communication with clients, as well as RNA-seq library production, whole genome and exome library production, DNA epigenetic profiling (ATAC, methylation) library construction, and input sample QC by BioAnalyzer, Nanodrop, and fluorimetry.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform genomics library preparation (RNA, whole genome, exome)
  • QC of input material (RNA and DNA), following SOPs for construction, and QC of the final products
  • Onboarding of samples from and communication with clients
  • RNA-seq library production
  • Whole genome and exome library production
  • DNA epigenetic profiling (ATAC, methylation) library construction
  • Input sample QC by BioAnalyzer, Nanodrop, and fluorimetry
  • Final library QC by BioAnalyzer
  • Entry of sample and library information into LIMS

Requirements:

  • BSc in genomics, molecular biology or related discipline is required
  • 3 years related experience is required
  • At least 1 year of experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques is required, such as: PCR reaction set up and purification, qPCR reaction assembly and data interpretation, Nucleic acid quantification by spectrophotometry and fluorimetry
  • Experience with using LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) is an asset
  • Experience with Illumina DNA sequencing library construction workflows is an asset
  • A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and accurately under deadlines
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment
