Lead Mechanical Estimator

About the Role:

The Estimator Lead - Mechanical will be responsible for developing accurate, complete, and competitive estimates for industrial, commercial, and institutional projects. This role will involve responding to tenders, bid requests, and Requests for Quotation (RFQs) by coordinating with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough reviews of specifications and drawings to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop detailed material take-offs and labor take-offs to support estimate development.
  • Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects to ensure competitive estimates.
  • Review estimates with Project Managers, Service Managers, and Foremen to ensure agreement on labor, material, equipment, and subcontracting costs.
  • Prepare tenders by quantifying, organizing, and tabulating material, equipment, labor, and subcontract costs.
  • Liaise with Procurement to obtain pricing on estimate aspects.
  • Participate in site reviews, tender reviews, tender hand-offs, project closings, and operational meetings with Regional Managers, Project Managers, and Service Managers.
  • Provide guidance on project viability, possibility of winning, and potential extras to support team decision-making.
  • Prepare risk reviews for Project Managers and Service Managers to inform estimate development.
  • Assist the sales force in developing proposals as needed.
  • Review tender closing documents and obtain signed/sealed, bonding/insurance certificates.
  • Track bids and proposals in an Excel sheet and submit to Project Admin for CRM entry.
  • Utilize estimating software to enhance, streamline, and improve estimating functions.
  • Work in a team environment to support each other and achieve collective success.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in HVAC, Hydronics, and Plumbing.
  • Post-secondary degree or higher.
  • Familiarity with Building Code and Plumbing Code.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to adapt to new software and applications as required.
  • A Trade Certificate would be a great asset.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet strict deadlines.
