About the Role:

The Mechanical Estimator Lead will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates for industrial, commercial, and institutional projects. This role requires a strong understanding of specifications, drawings, and industry codes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough reviews of specifications and drawings to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop detailed material and labor take-offs to support estimate development.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and owners to obtain pricing and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Review estimates with project managers and service managers to ensure alignment with labor, material, equipment, and subcontracting costs.
  • Prepare tenders by organizing and tabulating material, equipment, labor, and subcontract costs.
  • Liaise with procurement to obtain pricing and support estimate development.
  • Participate in site reviews, tender reviews, and project meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Provide guidance on project viability, risks, and opportunities to support informed decision-making.
  • Prepare risk reviews and assist in developing proposals to support sales efforts.
  • Track bids and proposals in an Excel sheet and submit to project administration for CRM entry.
  • Utilize estimating software to enhance and streamline estimating functions.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to achieve project goals and objectives.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in HVAC, hydronics, and plumbing.
  • Post-secondary degree or higher.
  • Familiarity with building codes and plumbing codes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to adapt to new software and applications as required.
  • A trade certificate would be an asset.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
