Job Title: Assistant Director of Care

At Extendicare Canada Inc., we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director of Care to join our team. As a key member of our medical team, you will be responsible for providing care to residents in accordance with the standards of practice and offering leadership and guidance to the personal care staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director of Care in implementing and evaluating nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection and analysis, report writing, and procedural updates.
  • Take the lead in coordinating and implementing best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care, including falls, restraint use, wound management, and Infection Control.
  • Effectively manage the utilization of nursing supplies.
  • Responsible for the High Intensity Needs program.
  • Maintain a system of care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation at the resident and unit program level that maximizes staff resources and contributes to an interdisciplinary team approach to resident care.
  • Effectively support the RAI-MDS program.
  • Maintain an active presence in the Resident Home Areas, mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care.
  • Initiate investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; develop and monitor modified work programs for nursing personnel.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Care on special projects, reviews, and other duties as assigned.
  • Identify areas of improvement for staff development and work with the Director of Care to ensure overall effectiveness of the nursing department.
  • Advocate for ethical and effective practice in all areas of the organization.
  • Assist the Director of Care with input to Performance Appraisals.
  • Focusing on Resident Centered Care Needs as required by MOH LTC Home Legislation and Extendicare Policies.
  • Actively participate in the palliative care program, goals of care, and advanced care planning.
  • Assume responsibility for the nursing department in the absence of the Director of Care.
  • Successful candidate will be required to work one weekend/month.
Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, BScN an asset.
  • Minimum of three years experience in long term care; previous management experience an asset.
  • Current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education, and quality improvement.
  • Knowledge of RAI MDS is required.
