Position Overview

The University of Regina is inviting applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of Justice Studies. The position is for an Assistant Professor in the field/area of Criminology and Criminal Justice. The anticipated date of commencement is July 1, 2025.

Job Description As an Assistant Professor, you will be expected to demonstrate a record of or potential for scholarly research and teaching excellence commensurate with the rank. Your duties will include teaching core courses in the department as well as courses from your specialty. The department has teaching needs in Indigenous justice, youth justice, crime analysis, victimology, corrections, justice policy, ethics, and research methods.
Experience working with Indigenous and other diverse populations is desirable. You will be expected to contribute to the scholarly advancement of the department through a productive research agenda, have some experience pursuing grants and funding from internal and external sources (e.g. CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC), and develop a record of effective student supervision and mentorship. As a member of the Department of Justice Studies, you will actively participate in department, faculty, and university level service consistent with your appointed rank.

Program Overview The Department of Justice Studies offers two distinct programs – a Bachelor of Human Justice and a Bachelor of Arts in Police Studies. Our department has approximately 350 undergraduate majors. Faculty in the department draw from pluralistic approaches grounded in the criminology field and various disciplines. Courses reflect a broad understanding of justice that includes criminal, legal, social, and restorative perspectives. Requirements To qualify, candidates should have in hand or be near completion of a PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or closely related discipline. This competition has been designated as being targeted for self-identified women/gender diverse individuals.
