About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Archaeology Field Technician II to join our team at WSP Canada. As a key member of our archaeological team, you will be responsible for conducting fieldwork under the supervision of an experienced Field Supervisor, including Stage 2 surveys, Stage 3 site-specific assessments, and Stage 4 mitigations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork, including surveying, test pitting, and excavation, in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
  • Collect and maintain detailed field notes, as required.
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of survey grids, as needed.
  • Support Field Supervisors and provide assistance where necessary.
  • Participate in a team environment, providing support to other field technicians and assisting with field activities, as required.
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical and professional behavior, demonstrating a 'Safety First' focus and serving as a role model to other staff.
Requirements
  • Ability to work daily at field site locations, with a strong preference for those who enjoy fieldwork and can work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including hand shoveling, troweling, and screening soil/earth, as well as working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate information, questions, and concerns related to site work to Field Supervisors in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, or independently when required.
  • Ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects, as needed.
  • A valid Ontario driver's license and clean driving record, with reliable transportation to and from designated project sites or office meet spots.
  • Knowledge of archaeological artifacts and principles, with a strong understanding of Ontario's archaeological regulations and protocols.
  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field, with at least three (3) field seasons of experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and test unit excavation.
