Job Summary: We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced instructor to teach in our Health Care Assistant Certificate program at the North Island College Comox Valley St. Joe's campus.
About the Role: The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing practice courses HCA 145: Practice Experience in Home Support, Assisted Living, and/or Group Home Setting and HCA 155: Practice Experience in Multi-Level and/or Complex Care to a cohort of international Health Care Assistant students via a face-to-face and online delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instruct students in assigned subject areas using a variety of approaches and materials.
- Direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment.
- Be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours.
- Clearly communicate learning outcomes in writing.
- Design and conduct evaluations or appraisals of students.
- Submit grades in a timely manner.
- Maintain records of student enrollment and achievement.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Practical Nursing credential or BSN degree.
- Two years' experience teaching adults, preferably at the post-secondary level.
- Work experience in gerontics.
- Extensive experience working with Older Adults.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Provincial Instructor diploma preferred.
- Experience with Indigenous pedagogies and culture.
- Current registration with BCCNM (inclusive of Criminal Record).
- CPR Level HCP required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using a variety of creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning.
- Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviours.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Experience with online learning management systems.
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications including MS Office.
- Valid BC driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
